Creating Pool League Schedules
Have you ever tried to develop a pool league schedule which involves two teams at one establishment that only has one pool table. I did it for five years and have some tips for you. 1. For scheduling purposes, even if there is only one division, divide the league into at least two divisions. Each division should have the same number of teams. If that is not possible, one division may have no more than one more team than the other. The larger division should have an even number of teams. 2. Make sure that all establishments with two teams have a team in each division. 3. Assign a number to each team. I suggest something like 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2; where the first digit is the division and the second digit is the team number within the division. These numbers may be changed after the scheduling process is complete. 4. Teams from the same establishment should be in the same position in each division. 5. Cut 2" x 2" pieces of paper or card stock, placing every possible pairing combination for one division on each piece (i.e. 1 vs 6). One combination per piece of paper or card stock. In addition to the combination above, you will need the reverse pairing (6 vs 1). This allows for each team to have a home match. If the division has an odd number of teams, use the next team number for a buy. I prefer card stock if I am doing this again. 6. Using these "cards" try to place the cards in weekly groups so that each team appears only once in each week. Check and double check to make sure there are no duplicate. You will repeat this process until all cards are used. Again, DOUBLE CHECK YOUR WORK. 7. You are now ready to write down the schedule you have just developed. STAND BY FOR FURTHER TIPS
